Acne treatment

Goregaon West, Mumbai · Dr. Pooja Shrivastava, MBBS, MD (DVL)

Who it's for

  • Teenagers and adults with active pimples, blackheads or whiteheads
  • Adult women with jawline or hormonal breakouts
  • Anyone whose over-the-counter routine has stopped working
  • People with painful, deep or cystic acne who want to avoid scarring

How it works

Acne is a medical condition, not a cosmetic one. It starts when oil, dead skin cells and bacteria block a pore, and inflammation follows. Dr. Pooja first works out which type of acne you have and what is driving it: hormones, products, medication or genetics. She may recommend blood tests if the pattern suggests a hormonal cause. Treatment usually combines a prescription topical to keep pores clear, an oral medicine if the acne is inflammatory or widespread, and in-clinic procedures such as a chemical peel or comedone extraction to speed things along. Everything is prescribed by a dermatologist, adjusted at review visits, and paired with a simple daily routine you can actually follow. Most patients see visible improvement over three to four sessions alongside home treatment, and the plan then shifts to keeping the skin clear.

What a session feels like

A consultation is a conversation and a close look at your skin under good light. If a peel or extraction is done the same day, expect mild tingling or stinging for a few minutes and some pinkness afterwards.

Aftercare

  • Sunscreen every morning, reapplied if you are outdoors
  • Keep the routine simple, with no scrubs and no new actives without asking
  • Do not pick or squeeze; this is what turns acne into scars
  • Take oral medication exactly as prescribed, including the full course

When this isn't suitable

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding: several acne medicines are not safe, so tell us first
  • Active skin infection or open wounds in the treatment area
  • Recent isotretinoin use may delay certain procedures

Tell us about any medication, pregnancy or recent treatment before booking. Nothing proceeds until Dr. Pooja has assessed you.
